On Monday March 16, GSI Partners Project Manager, Anna Shipp, and two members, Melissa Muroff of Roofmeadow and Jim Maransky of E-Built, testified at a City Council hearing in support of expanding incentives for green roofs.  Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown’s bill proposed to increase the tax credit from 25% of the total cost of installation to 50%, up to $100,000.

We’re happy to announce that on March 26, Philadelphia City Council passed the bill, doubling the City’s Green Roofs Tax Credit.  The change will go into effect July 1, 2015.

In our testimony we offered several other recommendations on how the tax credit could be even more effective.  We have since been invited by the Councilwoman’s office to continue the discussion on these ideas.  Expanding existing and creating new incentives for green infrastructure is one of our recommendations for the next Mayor and City Council, part of the Good Economy Challenge.  We look forward to supporting more successes in this area.
